ARTS Council Winter Member Show

"Study Daffodils"
10 x 8 inches
Oil

Dropped off this piece yesterday at the ARTS Council for their upcoming Winter Member Show.  I thought that the daffodils could be a cheerful antidote to the bitter winter weather we've been having.  It's a painting I reworked after showing it in Penn Yan at the Arts Center of Yates County in the Flick Gallery.  I originally had left my drawing marks but decided I'd like to repaint the background.

Here's a short video showing how I applied a new layer of gray gesso to the background.

Plus I decided to put a black frame on it instead of a gold one.  Gives it a new look.
Depending on the lighting -- natural versus lightbulb -- the painting shifts in color.  Here it looks like a warm gray, almost brown.  In the first photo, it was taken in natural light and the background looks blue gray.

I really enjoyed making this painting, especially experimenting with using grey gesso then leaving it as a neutral matte background to offset the yellows of the flowers.
