Upcoming Exhibit: "Contemplating Her Future" Oil Painting
My oil painting entitled "Contemplating Her Future" has been chosen to be part of the upcoming exhibit at the Corning-Painting Post Historical Society which opens the last weekend in June 2025.
"Framed in Fashion" will feature costumes from their collection inspired by paintings by local artists.
Soni Lacey, who is curating the exhibit and is choosing the pairings, said "I think I found the dress that I'm going to pair with your painting! It's a brightly colored dress with small flowers that was handmade for Mrs. Houghton by Balenciaga in Paris!"
They have a very nice collection of clothing that is not often shown so this will be a very fun way for them to bring out some of their special pieces. I am looking forward to seeing my painting pairing and all the others. I think there will be 15 or so.
A little background on my painting: I had a set of small tubes of paints from Mexico which I was given as many years ago. (We are talking 25 years ago!) I decided to use them up. Some of the colors were neon and the palette was limited. It was fun because the goal was to use up the paint, so I put lots of paint on the canvas and embraced the wild colors. Here's the drawing and the painting as it emerged. It was inspired by two paintings I like, sort of a mash up in the style I have used before, which I have called "Straight from the Tube."
