Painting Instructors

For those of you who have asked, my painting instructors have been Marty Poole, Rich Musso, and now Dustin Boutwell. I also took a couple of plein air workshops from Ken McIndoe, and Maddine Insalaco/Joe Vinson.

Isabelle's Gardening Things 16 x 20

This is the first painting I did this year after resuming painting by joining a class at 171 Cedar Arts Center. It's taught by a popular and very talented local artist, Dustin Boutwell.

Unlike other classes, we work on whatever we want to paint. It's part of Dustin's teaching style that brings us all forward.

In this case, Isabelle brought in her gardening things to create a still life. I painted them, because I like to garden, too.

It was challenging and interesting to paint the shininess of the metal trowel, the softness of the leather glove and to make it all look like it was sitting on the shelf.

Dustin has helped me develop my skills and my confidence. My classmates are also a wonderful source of information and inspiration. We share music, food, stories...

Day One

Becoming a blogger to share my painting & photography work in progress. I resumed painting (oils) in January 2007 and have about 10 works completed enough to show. I have one big photography project (portraits of local artists in their studios) and several small ones in the early stages. To have time to devote to photography & painting, I am drastically cutting back on my jewelry business. It's been an emotional transition, but I am energized and excited about the future.

Next step is to figure out how to post photos of my work.
